Tips for making shaving foam at home
The recipe we propose is very simple, but this does not mean that it is a recipe that you should underestimate. Moreover, it is a very versatile recipe. In fact, you can use it both as a "dry" shaving cream, and if you prefer to shave in the shower. In any case, when you are done it will be enough to rub away the excess and enjoy the smooth effect you have obtained thanks to your recipe.
As for its conservation, we remind you that the shaving foam that we propose below can be stored for several weeks, as long as you leave it in a cool and dry place. If you also put water in the jar, it spoils faster: therefore store it correctly!
Ingredients for homemade shaving foam
What you need to be able to make homemade shaving cream is:
- 1/3 cup of coconut oil,
- 1/3 cup of shea butter,
- 1/4 cup of olive oil (if you prefer you can also use a different oil, such as sweet almond oil or jojoba oil, and more)
- essential oils (not mandatory, and therefore optional and only if the scents in the shaving foam don't bother you).

We advise you to find only high quality ingredients, because otherwise the final goodness of your product will suffer. Of course, this does not mean that you will have to spend tens of euros to be able to find the basic material for this recipe, but only not to seek savings at all costs.
In particular, just as it should happen for coconut oil, shea butter must also be chosen of a good type, unrefined and unprocessed. You will be able to choose between the various types available, as long as they are - we repeat - of not too low quality.
In any case, we begin the realization of our practice recipe melting the shea butter and coconut oil over low heat on the hob. You will notice that it doesn't take long to dissolve completely, thus archiving this first part of the making of our homemade shaving cream recipe very easily.
Once dissolved, pour everything into a container, add the olive oil and mix. Put this mixture in the refrigerator and let it harden. Once the mixture is solid again, you can take it out of the refrigerator and place it in a bowl.
At this point, mix for a few minutes, until its consistency is light and creamy. Now is the time - if you want - to add essential oils. The recipe is finished. So you just have to keep everything in an airtight container in a cool and dark place when not in use.
We have thus come to the margins of these brief indications that you will need to be able to create some practice DIY shaving foam. As we have been able to appreciate, the ingredients you will need are very few and, above all, they are all natural.
So if you have problems with shaving foams, because you think they are particularly aggressive for your skin type, it is very likely that you will find yourself extremely well with this cream made with only natural compounds.
As for essential oils, we reiterate once again that you are by no means forced to use them. Essential oils in fact only serve to give a greater fragrance to the shaving foam, covering the natural one (shea butter may appear too "earthy" to someone's nose). However, they could be irritating substances and, therefore, in principle we advise you to avoid this kind of ingredient, unless you want to embellish this recipe with an element that can make it even more recognizable to your nose.
That said, we recommend getting your hands dirty right away and making your first DIY shaving cream. We are sure that after a few attempts you will become a real master of its realization!
